Rockin’ A Poncho: Fifty Plus Style

Never one to let a seventies throwback trend pass me by, I invested in this poncho by Tommy Hilfiger (from TKMaxx I might add).  It’s really warm and cosy, but hasn’t had as much wear as I’d hoped as we’ve had such an unusually warm winter.  Worn with dark M&S denims and my Dune cowboy boots I feel very happy in it.

Now, where did I leave that donkey?

Fifty Plus Style: Weekend Break in Llandudno

Impossible to know what to wear at the start of the summer in the UK isn’t it?  We stayed over for just one night in Llandudno so didn’t need much in the way of luggage, but I just didn’t know what to take.  It was beautifully sunny both days, but a bit cool, so I’ve not parted with my woollies yet.  I plumped for layers, as I always do when in doubt.

Day one: White relaxed skinny jeans from M&S, pistachio cardi from BHS, scarf M&S, silver sandals Office.

Day two: Silk boho top from TKMaxx and long sleeveless cardi M&S.

Fifty Plus Fashion: Saturday Night at Sergio’s

There doesn’t seem to be much out there about what women over 50 are wearing so I thought I’d start sharing some of my outfits with you.

I’m no fashion expert, nor have I the grace of a catwalk model, but I know what I like and have a formula that works for me.  Figure wise, I have big boobs and a big bum but I do have a waist which is great.  I’m 5ft 2 with short legs and a long torso (makes finding trousers a challenge).  I work out a fair bit, so my thighs are what you might call ‘solid’ but I have good ankles and not too much in the way of wobbly bits.    Like many women in their fifties, I’m heavier than I’d like to be.  Too fond of good food!

This outfit is a casual Saturday night staple formula for dinner in Sergio’s, our favourite local Italian.

The top is from TK Maxx.  I bought it a couple of weeks ago for £19.99.  It’s real silk with a jersey lining and is very comfortable.  I like the way the wafty sleeves detract from my lower half.  It also appeals to my inner hippy (you’ll see a lot of her in future posts). I accessorised it with this rose gold metal heart on a leather cord which was £2 in a charity shop.

The jeans are dark denim from M&S.  I don’t have a happy relationship with M&S trousers as they are normally too long from crotch to waist and make my bum look huge, but this straight leg style seems to work.  If I’m going to wear jeans in the evening I always choose dark denim as it is more forgiving to the thighs.

The leather jacket is from Lakeland and cost about £140 maybe seven years ago.  It was a good investment and has worn well.  It’s lovely and soft and an easy colour to wear.

I bought these suede boots for £30 in M&S at the end of summer sale. I love this Chelsea style and have several pairs in different colours.  The handbag is Fiorelli and came from a charity shop.

I don’t take fashion, or myself, too seriously and love having fun with clothes.  I look forward to sharing my wardrobe finds with you!
